Last weekend, I went on a great trip to Toyama prefecture to climb Tateyama. Toyama is famous for its giant walls of snow in winter but in September the weather is warm and the mountains are green with many flowers. It truly was a beautiful scene.
I got to the top of Tateyama and enjoyed a ceremony performed by a priest at a shrine. He offered a prayer for a safe return. Many people were climbing Tateyama and I was happy to see them. I thought it was especially great that many older people were out hiking! It is tiring to climb a mountain but everyone was kind and having fun!
This week, I could share my experience with my students at my Smith’s School in Fukushima (スミス英会話福島). We had great conversations about hiking and Toyama. It’s very fun to share stories with my great students! I even learned about Okuhida, an area near Toyama, where I am planning my next trip! Have you ever been to Okuhida?
