I had a very enjoyable Golden Week for more than one reason. On April 26th my wife gave birth to a beautiful, healthy baby girl. As my wife is from Tokushima, we spent the holidays staying with her parents, as is sometimes done here in Japan after a child is born. I was in charge of entertaining our very active 2 year old son. It was great to spend the time with him exploring different parks and the Tokushima Zoo, which was surprisingly good compared to others I have been to in Japan.
One evening, we had a small naming party as a celebration for our daughter. A lot of what we ate had been grown in the family’ s vegetable garden. As part of the meal we ate grilled Tai ( or red bream, which is often eaten as part of celebrations), roast beef, sashimi, sushi, tempura prawns and a variety of vegetables. All washed down with a few cold Asahi beers. Delicious!! Even though I love to cook, it was great to be able to stay with my parents in law and to enjoy authentic Japanese cooking every night.
Thank you to all my English conversation students, for your well wishes, gifts and congratulation messages. It makes me happy to be living in Japan when I have such great friends. I look forward to introducing our baby daughter to you when my family returns home to Osaka. See you in class………..
Tim.
