This week, I decided on these yellow freesia フリージアto decorate the reception room of the Smith`s school of English スミス英会話 in Fuse, Higashi Osaka 東大阪布施. Originated in South Africa, the flower is now very popular around the world, so my guess is that my freesias did not come the far way from Africa, but probably originated in Japan. In South Africa, there are some fourteen species of this flower, but modern gardening has produced many new mixed flowers. Apart from there beauty, they also smell very pleasant. It is often used in fragrances and other cosmetic products. 
In the conversation classes, the flowers are a nice start into a natural conversation. A lot of the conversation students make a comment when they step into the school anyways. This time, I used the freesias フリージア to talk about fantastic things like Freesia is a fantastic flower; Osaka is a fantastic city; Japan is a fantastic country etc. It is a quite simple start, but when you ask “why” and for details, soon a quite complex conversation will develop. Especially to give an exact and detailed description can be a challenging task even for native speaker, so it can be challenging even for high level speakers.
