narcissusAs I am hoping for a nice long spring this year, I have chosen these beautiful yellow wild daffodilsラッパスイセン to decorate the reception room in the Smith`s school of English in Fuse, Higashi Osaka 東大坂布施. As the daffodil or narcissus, it`s  official name, blooms at the end of winter and early spring, it is a nice flower to put in your room in the hope for an early spring. In my country, yellow narcissusラッパスイセン are used as decoration during the Easter  season because they stand for good  luck in various countries around the world.

The Japanese katakana name ラッパスイセン explicitly names the trumpetラッパ like form of the corona. Some narcissus are also called trumpet daffodils in English英語, but apparently the ones in our English conversation school英会話学校 in Fuse, Higashi Osaka東大阪布施 would be classified as wild variants. The dark yellow corona and the surrounding light yellow sepals and petals make for the vivid beauty of this flower and are probably the reason why it is one of the favorite garden flowers in Europe.ラッパスイセン

In the English conversation classes英会話レッスン, the students like to comment on the flowers. It is also a welcome opportunity to learn some flower names. Today a student who has just started to learn English could learn the flowers name “daffodil”, and she actually managed to describe the typical shape and color of the Japanese narcissus, which has white sepals and petals (the six star-like “leaves” of the flower) but a dark yellow corona (the “trumpet”) What a great achievement  for her! It proved again how important natural stimulants for conversation are for English Conversation classes英会話レッスン.

The daffodils are very popular flowers in Europe, so it is possible to get a lot of information about them on the wikipedia pages in English英語,  but the Japanese日本語 page is much shorter.
