Decorating the Fuse school with Sweet Pea スイートピー

sweet peaAlready it is December and it is starting to get cold, although the weather is very nice. So I decided to decorate the Smith`s School of English in Fuse, Higashi-Osaka東大阪布施 this week with a white flower – snow white. I chose this wonderful sweet pea スイートピー. It is not really snow white, but even thought a common flower, it has its own beauty. Actually I think that there is nothing wrong with being common – that way more people can enjoy the beauty of this flower.  As these sweat peas have a pink flush, they are called “Blushing Bride”, a very beautiful name fitting to this beautiful flower.

スイートピーThe sweat pea スイートピー originates from southern Europe, mainly the eastern Mediterranean area, and are now very popular as garden flowers.  The name “sweat pea” can not be attributed to the sweat taste of the peas – they are actually slightly poisonous – how poisonous has not been researched. They have a very sweet fragrance that gives them their name.  So if you happen to be in Fuse, Higashi-Osaka 東大阪布施, you are always welcome to drop in, have a look at these beautiful flower  and appreciate their fragrance.

During the English Conversation lessons 英会話レッスン, I use the sweat pea スイートピー to practice with the conversation students 英会話生徒 negation 否定文. For example, I ask my students “Would you like to eat some sweat peas?” The student then can answer with the negation 否定文: “No, I don`t want to eat sweat peas.” Advanced conversation students 英会話生徒 can , for example, answer evading a direct negation 否定文 and find a polite excuse, like: “I`m really sorry, but I just had dinner.”

If you like to now more about the flower, here are the respective links to the pages in wikipedia in English and in Japanese.

I must say I don’t know much when it comes to flowers. Thanks for all the info.
