This week has been quite an eventful week here in Tsukaguchi, Amagasaki, Hyogo Perefecture, the location of my English conversation (英会話) school, Smith’s School of English Tsukaguchi (スミス英会話塚口校). First we had snow on Monday which I earlier wrote about here. Then in the very early hours of this morning (around 2:15 am) a fire erupted on the other side of the Hankyu Railway tracks located near my English conversation school close to Hankyu Tsukaguchi Station. From our home in Tsukaguchi, my wife and I heard several fire engines so we knew there was a big fire somewhere in Amagasaki but didn’t know exactly where. We found out after getting up this morning when my wife Akemi checked on the Internet. We were surprised! Wow! A bit later we saw it announced on an Osaka TV news program too. The fire apparently managed to burn an area of approximately 2950 square meters, burning a number of buildings before being put out. Luckily nobody was hurt. They’re not sure what the cause of the fire was yet.
I thank the firefighters who put out this big fire and all firefighters who regularly put their lives at risk to save people and buildings. I salute you all!
