I’m from Europe and I’m a football fan. The World Cup in Brazil will start next week and I can’t wait. In Japan football is becoming one of the most popular sports. Many students at Smith’s Katsura(スミス英会話 桂) play or watch football every week. Some students watch only the national team games.
This week, we have a lot of English conversation about football. We try to guess which country is going to win and talk about our favourite players. For me, it’s Frank Lampard playing for England. He also plays for Chelsea FC, a team I support. It will be Lampard’s last World Cup and I hope he’ll have some good games.
My favourite Japanese player is Endō. As a young footballer, Endō played for our local team Kyoto Purple Sanga. Japanese team have a special place in my heart and I’m very excited about the Samurai Blue. Their group is very difficult, but I believe this team can go far in the tournament.
It’s going to be an exciting month in Brazil. Brazil is the number one football nation in the world and everybody is expecting them to win. They have a very good chance, but I’m hoping for some big surprises. Nothing is decided yet.
Next Sunday, I’ll be with my family and friends, watching Japan against Ivory Coast. Come On Japan!
