I teach English, but I was trained as a science teacher, and I taught science for years in Canada. That, plus I lived in Alberta, so I had the chance to see the Tyrell dinosaur Museum there several times. It is excellent.
Well, so is this museum.
Yesterday, I took the opportunity to take my family to the Fukui prefectural Dinosaur Museum.
It is excellent.
This museum was built close to the site where the Fukuiraptor was first discovered. It is a real dinosaur and really scary! It is very close in size to Deinonychus, which was the dinosaur in Jurassic park (they called it velociraptor, but the real velociraptor is about as big as your pet dog).
I never knew there was such an excellent resource to close to home until my son and I started to make a dinosaur site (you can find it here). Now we are a father and son dinosaur learning crew. What better chance than this to learn about dinosaurs? There is a tyrannosaurus skeleton in the exhibit, as well as real moving dinosaurs (well not real, but they look real, and move and make sounds, too!).
The science behind the dinosaurs is all set out in clear explanations in Japanese and English. If you have a car, I strongly recommend that you go and visit this museum sometime. You won’t regret it!
As for distance, it is only a 3.5 nonstop drive from my school in Ikoma.
