I think I brought back a few extra pounds with me from my holiday in Canada….the turkey wasn`t the only one to get stuffed. My students were the first to point that out while looking over my photos of Vancouver, Victoria, Nanaimo and Gabriola and Galiano Island. Usually I visit home during the summer to join my dad on motorcycle tours of all our favorite spots and enjoy the outdoor season to the fullest. However, winter has it`s own charms, especially next to the fireplace in a log cabin while it`s cold and stormy outside. I took this photo of my parents and `Duffy`, the irish setter during our stay on Galiano Island. Some of my my students have spent time on other nearby islands on farm stay programs. One is still there after 5 years! Another fellow who served my beer at the friendly, local pub met his wife in Kyushu which explains why they had Sopporo on draft! Using Korean Air allows me to stop in Korea on my way or way back to visit my previous students when I taught there 10 years ago. It was rather chilly (-12) but their warm greetings and some spicy kimchi made me quickly forget about the cold. I`m also pleased to see my students here in Kyoto have made friends with some of my former Korean students, opening the door to more international exchange and another chance to practice their English. All the best to you all for 2011!
