A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be able to attend the Kyobashi Wine and Cheese Party. The highlight of this evening was not only the chance to try a variety of new wines and cheeses but to also have the opportunity to meet and get to know a lot of new students and their friends. As I only teach at Smith’s School of English Kyobashi 2 days a week there were quite a few new faces and we were all curious about each other and by the end of the evening both myself and the students had gotten to know each other a little, even if it was only a greeting and a smile over a wine glass. It was also a bonus for me to meet the daughter of one of my students, mostly because it is generally uncommon for people in Japan to introduce their family to others outside of their close friends. That meant a lot to me and implied how much the Smith’s English school is trusted and appreciated as both a place of learning and a place to relax and socialize.
