Windows 7

You are here: Home / Blog / Windows 7

windows-7-new-wallpaperFor those of you that have been reading my posts for a while would know I am a computer geek. I love discovering new programs that make my life easier. Last year I decided to go with Mac because I had become frustrated with Windows XP. Last September though Windows 7 was released – I heard that it was based on Windows Vista which gave me even more trouble that XP so I was  less than enthusiastic about taking the jump to Windows 7. However I had an extra computer that I wasn’t using so I decided to give it a go and see if Windows had learnt from their past mistakes.

Simply put – Windows 7 works. I absolutely love it. The design is lovely and it has a lot of practical functions that XP didn’t have. Even older computers have no trouble running Windows 7 which is great as my old computer feels brand new. I highly encourage anyone thinking about changing to go ahead and take the plunge.

As for how Windows 7 stacks up to Mac I must say that I’m a fan of both. They both have pros and cons. Personally I think that if you’re going to go for a desktop that Windows 7 is the way to go. You can really get a lot of bang for your buck. I recently ungraded one of my older computers and it cost me just under ¥30,000 and now it flies. But if space is a premium in your apartment (which is often the case here in Japan) then I recommend getting a Macbook because for the price there is nothing better. I personally find the cheapest model more than enough for most people’s uses including my own. Now, some people might think that changing over to a Mac is difficult but if you just want something that will work for 8 years go with a Mac.

As always I try and share my knowledge with my students at Smith’s 英会話 Hirakata.

Questions anyone?

Adrian
