That’s an important question. Many people are so busy just going through their daily life that they never stop and think about this question and whether they are achieving something or not. Yesterday, I realized that I too am one such person. Given a chance to write down a goal for myself for 1 or 2 years into the future, I struggled a bit because, while the sky is the limit, I knew that a lot of problems will evolve as the school grows to be a multiple-classroom, multiple-teacher or multiple location business. We often hear the statement that it’s important to “keep it simple, stupid! KISS”. I am a firm believer in this philosophy and I think that Smith’s School with its proven system, great staff and great web presence is created according to the KISS philosophy. I set my goal for the next 1-2 years to achieve annual earnings of 10,000,000 Yen. That’s between $90,000 and $100,000. It’s not huge but it is achievable and would provide a comfortable and stress-free life. Of couse in addition to this I want to have 2-4 weeks more of vacation per year on top of the of the normal 37 days I have now excluding Sundays which are, of course, off days. So my goal is set and now I just need to set short term goals to achieve while working toward the bigger goal. And who knows, when I reach that goal I may be ready to double it right away.
The sky is the limit but start with something achievable. The Smith’s system provides all that is needed to achieve your goal. Also being an owner-teacher sure beats working in a high-stress corporate job or for one of the Mac-schools out that pays a limited salary and provides no guarantee of contract renewal. So set your goals, work hard to achieve them and most of all enjoy life!
