One of the best things about owning your own English school is that you can have any kind of events you like. Every year, Smith’s school of English in Otsu hosts 4 major events: Hanami in spring, BBQ in summer, Halloween party in autumn, and Christmas party in December. We also host many minor events, and have 3 coming up.
First, we are having an English cafe with special guests. We have done this 4 times at our school over the last 2 years, and every time it was a great success. This cafe’s special guests are my parents, and I am really looking forward to introducing our students to my parents. The first time we hosted this type of cafe was also with my parents, and I was impressed with how much my students could chat. They talked to my parents for over 3 hours! All for free!
The next event our school is hosting is sumo. Last year we took students to the Osaka tournament in March, but this year we are lucky that they are doing a regional tournament in Otsu, so we get to watch it locally. Regional tournament s are really fun because they are less competitive and the wrestlers enjoy a bit of roughhousing and playing to the crowd. I’m really looking forward to it, and I know my students are as well.
At the end of October we are hosting our annual Halloween party at the school and already have quite a few students signed up. They are already talking about their costumes. One of Otsu’s best students, Masako, has already acquired 2 large pumpkins for the party, so we’ll be able to carve some great jack-o-lanterns again. Check back after each event for fun photos and full event summaries!
