Decisions About Sagamihara
Last autumn I felt the need to make a change here in Japan with Smith’s School of English. I narrowed down my decision to three options: sell my franchise and open a new one, keep it and open a second one, or relocate the school. With the help of Smith’s Head Office, I decided on a relocation to Sagamihara Station. To my delight, most students followed me. Consequently, this new location is actually more convenient for many. Fourteen years ago I was new to Smith’s system and really didn’t appreciate what actually goes into opening a new franchise, especially in terms of what Smith’s Head Office does. Now I know.
Smith’s Head Office in Action

I found the building at Sagamihara Station, snapped a few photographs, and sent them to Smith’s Head Office. Yuka got the ball rolling quickly. She did the research and contacted estate agents. She negotiated costs, set up appointments for me, and drew up contracts. I was kept informed almost daily- all from Osaka (I’m located In Kanagawa Prefecture, near Tokyo). Miki took care of all my signage needs- contacting local sign companies, setting up appointments for me, negotiating costs of materials, labor, and installation (all from Osaka). Distance is not a factor with this company- they can do it.
Teamwork at Smith’s Head Office
Mika and Miki made some nice changes to my webpage. In fact, they made improvements to all franchisee webpages in the past year. Their superior communication skills and trust are also what every Smith’s franchise receives. All are well organized and work well as our support team.

I absolutely appreciate the hard work and support we receive from Smith’s School of English Head Office. I am looking forward to what is to come this year, including traveling to Osaka again for our next seminar. Best of luck to all coaches, students, and staff in 2019. Thank you all so much.

That’s great, Jim. It was interesting finding out what Head Office does when a school opens in a new location in detail. What great support from Head Office! We are lucky to have such a great team over at Head Office. All the best with your school this year!
