Trust and Safety
One of the things that I love about Japan is the trust and safety. I have traveled to a number of places here and am always surprised when I see things like this. In many other countries including Canada, the money box would have been taken along with the products. But here in Japan, it seems that everyone respects each other and will not take these things without paying.
In shopping malls, the owners in Canada would never use a cloth to cover their things for the night. They know that they would return in the morning to find all or almost all of them missing, but here in Japan there is that trust and safety. I have only seen a net like this used to show that the store is closed in Japan. In Canada, we use sliding doors with alarm systems. Of course I have seen the sliding doors and alarms here in Japan as well, but this style is really amazing.
I have also developed that level of trust as well. When I am writing using my laptop computer at cafes, I will leave it unattended to use the restroom. I do not have any fear that my property will not be there when I get back.
There are many beautiful places around the world, but the thing that makes a country a great place to live are the people. In Japan, the people’s respect and consideration are as beautiful as the country.
