Last Friday was the day of the big typhoon. It was also Yuichi’s birthday. It didn’t look like it was going to be a great one with a typhoon and both of us working all day, but some birthdays happen like that.
The typhoon let up for the evening of his birthday, so that was nice. One of our students told me it was her birthday that day, too. I thought that was kind of cool, so at the end of class I told Yuichi that it was the student’s birthday. I jokingly asked the next student if it was his birthday, too and he looked surprised and said, “Actually, it is!”
Three birthdays at Kamishinjo on September 2, and no typhoon. It turned out to be a pretty good birthday after all.
Next year we’ll have to have a Triple 2 party!!!

Carol! Thanks so much for the festival review comment! I’m glad my postings are enjoyable and I’m actually hoping people will use them to get out and see more fireworks in the years to come. Fireworks kind of exist everywhere but nowhere are they as prolific as in Japan in summer. It seems a shame to live in Japan and not take part, but the daunting crowds and the oppressive heat are understandably the main deterents. Yoko and I have therefore become very adept and beating the the problems. Some festivals we even watch while having a picnic inside the car! Where to park??? Martin

What fun. I love birthdays AND I love coincidences. Sounds like the 3 birthday folks at your school will have a great time together every year from now on!
