When studying anything whether it’s math, science or the English language, it’s a good idea to set some goals. This is especially important if you plan to study for a long period of time. For example, one of my students from Aobadai (青葉台) has been studying at our Smith’s Azamino Conversation School (スミス英会話 あざみ野校) for just over 4 years. When he began he started as a very low beginner, but now he’s achieving a TOEIC score of over 810, quite an amazing accomplishment since he doesn’t use English outside of the classroom. Now the secret to his success and motivation is that he uses the TOEIC test as a motivational tool and sets yearly goals for himself. His goal for this year is to get over 900 and is very obtainable with the right mindset. So whatever your reason is for studying English, travel, work, or studying abroad.
