Today I had a really fun lesson with my “Very Eager Student!”
Recently we had just finished studying the various ways of telling time and what we each do at certain times on certain days so today I decided to use the game of battleship to have some fun and review these two points.
The grid was drawn on a piece of paper. On the left side appeared all the days of the week and on the top were various times of the day.
We each had a certain number of various sized “ships” to secretly fill in on our sheets.
The purpose of the game was to find where the “ships” were located on the other person’s sheet by asking… the question, “What do you do at (time) on (day)?”
If the person asking the question had chosen the coordinates on the grid in which a ship had been drawn then the other person would have to answer with an activity he/she does at that time on that day and the word “Hit!”
If there was no ship on the chosen coordinates, then the answer would be “I’m sorry, I don’t do anything at (time) on (day)” and the word “Miss!”
We played this game for about 20 minutes and in the end my student had sunk 7 of my 10 ships and I had sunk only 1 of her ships and scored one hit on another ship…
My student enjoyed this game very much and it was a great way to review time and day. I plan to use this game again in the future to review other concepts.
It was my student’s first time to play this game and she did a great job!
I also enjoyed this game very much because it reminded me of when I was her age. I really enjoyed playing Battleship with my friends then and I don’t think I’ve played this game since then.
This was my first lesson of the day, and it was a great start to my day!
Thank you!
