The soccer world cup is coming!

You are here: Home / Blog / The soccer world cup is coming!

Soccer world cup! ワールドカップ is the time when half of the world forgets about normal life and goes crazy. I still remember the last world cup in Germany with lots of sleepless nights. Back then, the students did not mind us teachers being sleepy in the morning lessons. They knew quite well how important the event was for us teachers.  Thanks again! I hope that our students here at the English Conversation School in Fuse スミス英会話布施 will be as understanding this time! Certainly we will have a lot of opportunity to talk about the World Cup (ワールドカップ) during lessons with interested students and introduce a lot of special soccer vocabulary like “referee”, “forward” and “goal”!

Who will win the South African world cup? Well Germany of course! Why? Well I`m German.
Jokes aside, I believe that on of the strong South American teams will win again, probably Argentine or Brazil, as a quick look at the history of world cups on the official FIFA side reveals that no European team was yet able to win outside of Europe. Also I hope that the African teams will do really well this time – I mean it is something like a home-play for them. And the Japanese team? Well, I don`t believe that they are as weak as so many people, especially Japanese people say. Their group is very strong, but because of this everything is possible! The ball is round and the match has 90 minutes, as a famous German soccer saying goes! Well, let`s stop talking and start watching!

Where? You are living in Japan and You don`t know where and when You can watch Your favorite team? Well You either have the Skyperfect(スカパー) digital television or know a sports bar that has, or You can watch the games in one of the free chanels. Click herefor an overview of all matches in television in Japanese. (If You can`t read katakana(かたかな), just find Your team by the flag. The “Cross” means bad luck – no channel will show the game. You`ll have to find a sports bar that shows it.)
