I don’t claim to be any sort of expert, but I am a great lover of photography and something of a shutterbug. Since my son was born, I haven’t had a lot of time to take many photos with my Canon AE-1 35mm camera. These days I mostly just admire other people’s photos with envy and wait patiently for a time in my life when I can return to the world of amateur photography.
Recently I have fallen in love with some photos taken by Ivan Goroun, a photographer based in Vancouver. His Facebook page has tons of amazing photos of British Columbia, Canada. His page is titled West Coast Scapes and as you will see, he loves taking photos of the great natural landscapes from the west coast of Canada. I’m particularly amazed by the amazing colors he finds and how he can pull those color out and make them really shine. His contrasts are also fantastic. You can view his pictures at his West Coast Scapes Facebook page.
I also love photos taken by other amateur photographers within the Smith’s English school system- students and teachers alike share a passion for the camera. You can check out great pics by Tim at Nakamozu school at his school’s page HERE, or some great photos from martin at Kotoen school can be seen HERE.
As you can probably tell from the links above, nature photos are my favorite but I also like historical photos and portraits.

Nice post Ed, and thanks for the plug. Canon AE-1? Nostalgia!! My first camera was a Nikon F which my dad bought me when I was 11 years old. Accumulated quite a few Nikons over the years and eventually moved into Mamiya 6×7 medium format. Today most pics I take are with a simple point-and-shoot digi-cam. Never ever ever thought that would happen! I wanna go back to slow film!
I recently got a Mamiya 120 from a student. Amazing camera, unfortunately haven7t had a chance to play with it yet. I took up film photography as a hobby because I like the slow, relaxing process. Marvelously relaxing.
Cool. What’s the exact model number and exposed image size of your Mamiya?
Ummm… not sure. I REALLY haven’t had time to play with it. I don’t really know anything about it yet. I’ll put up a post when I start using it!
Good plan. If you want to get into slow photography, there ain’t nuttin’ like good ‘ole 120 roll film in a Mamiya or Hasselblad. I’ll bet yours is a TLR and not an SLR……..
