This past Sunday my wife and I were invited to a student’s house in Kobe to enjoy a great home-cooked meal. It was a beautiful September day and my student and her husband welcomed us into their home where we had a great time. Their home is located on the top floor of a large condominium and has a great view of the Kobe port area. My student has been studying for a year and her English has really progressed a lot. During the lunch she worked hard to speak English and the meal she made was excellent and told a lot about how hard she also has been working at her cooking school. We started with an appetizing warm salad which included perfectly cooked scallops, cherry tomatoes and string beans. Throughout the meal we could enjoy some great bruschetta that she had made using stewed red onions. The main course included roasted pork and rattatouille. We finished with homemade cake and coffee.
We enjoyed a great French sparkling wine followed by several fine Italian red wines. Everything was just perfect. We are looking forward to inviting them to our house in the future for a meal and great conversation. Yeah, life in Japan….is great!

Al,
Your students sound like a great bunch. Most students are. Yours seem especially so. Nice work.
