This past Saturday I had some good news. Two of my students informed me that they had just passed some important English proficiency tests and thanked me for my help the past few years to help them achieve their goals. One student passed the Eiken 1-Kyu (STEP Grade 1) test and the other passed an English proficiency test at her company. Both students work for American companies in the Kansai area and one of the students said that by passing the test she will have an opportunity for promotion. She was very happy about this and thanked me for helping her. She said that the test was not just for English fluency but also for her ability to resolve problems and hold meetings etc. in English. She said that her ability to really communicate effectively about business issues in English had improved tremendously through my lessons.
I cannot begin to tell you how proud of my students. They both worked really hard and I am happy that I could be a part of their success. This is what it is really about. It’s not about tests like TOEIC or TOEFL or EIKEN really although I am happy to help students work toward success in those tests. It is more about giving students the ability to communicate effectively in English. It really opens up their world and affords them more career opportunities. It’s really great!
