Hi, Tom from SSE Katsura here and today I’d like to briefly talk about ‘Student Talking Time’. One of the most effective tools to improve English conversational skills. ‘Student Talking Time’ or STT in short, refers to the amount of time students spend talking during their lesson. High talking time is a good sign that indicates a quality lesson. Smith’s coaching mission for students of all levels is to achieve 70% of STT in every lesson.
70% of STT might sound difficult or perhaps intimidating. I can assure you that it is not only possible and relatively easy to do, it’s also a highly rewarding and enjoyable way of studying. It is not unusual for students to doubt their ability to say more than one or two simple English sentences. They would like to be able to communicate more eloquently and conduct a thorough English conversation. I understand their desire.
My job is not about pressuring students into making awkward sentences. On the contrary, I try to make them engaged and comfortable enough to competently express their thoughts in English. And to create such an environment I simply offer my professional guidance and plenty of space to use it. We share the same goal. Communicative confidence. The only requirement is a patient teacher that gives students the right amount of time and coaching assistance to express themselves. No rush.
I believe that all my students can improve their English speaking skills. All students have the potential to become competent English speakers. High STT is the best way to achieve that.
If you are also interested in improving your communicative confidence in English, come and see me at SSE Katsura and let me show you how much potential you have.
Tom
