The other day I was pleasantly surprised to get a message from my student who was visiting Okinawa. It included some great pictures. In the message she included the following report in English. Very impressive!
February 1: The second day, I went to the northern part of Okinawa. The outside temperature was 26 degrees C and sunny. First I went to the Kouri Island. I saw the sea rom the top of Kouri Island Bridge. Then I went to the Churaumi Aquarium. I saw manatees for the first time in my life there. The manatees were a gift from Mexico, and then I went to see the cherry blossoms. And I went back to the hotel.
Today is February 2. I will come home to Kobe tonight.
Very impressive! No mistakes! Wow! Great! I am always impressed when my students make effort to use English in everyday life. This effort is what will assure their success. It is so easy to fall back to just using Japanese in all their blogs, messages and Facebook pages etc. I can understand this as, for me it is easier to write in English than in Japanese but you can see here that I do make effort to write in Japanese too on my smithweb blog. And I sometimes write in Japanese on my Smith’s Okamoto Facebook page. I will try to keep up my effort to update these pages and use English and Japanese from time to time. After all, as a teacher I must lead by example!
Enjoy English! It really is fun! Check my separate website for hints on learning English too.
