I am very fortunate to have a Smith’s School of English Franchise in Osaka Fukushima ( 福島校 ). One of the major reasons I chose to open a school in this area was because the area was so close to Umeda ( 梅田 ) yet retained a distinct neighborhood character, both of which are major positives to running a Smith’s Franchise. A great many eating and drinking places exist within just five minutes walk in any direction from my school.
Students at Fukushima come from all over Osaka and western Hyogo Prefectures, and a large majority of them are making the trip over from Umeda by bicycle or rail. There are all sorts of things to do in Umeda and I really appreciate the effort students at Fukushima have made to come over for their lessons. Some of the Umeda ( 梅田 ) businesses I like to hit before, after or during teaching hours at Fukushima ( 福島校 ) are:
Yodobashi Camera, ACTY 16F for a variety of excellent restaurants, Kyoei Sangyo Telescopes, GARE shopping, Starbucks at no fewer than six locations in Umeda, Diamoru Mall, Hanshin Department Store Wine Shop, Citibank Osaka Ekimae, Vietnam Frog, Kinokuniya Bookstore and Seijou Ishii for a great selection of imported food products and wine.
In a future positing, watch for a list of restaurants to visit in Fukushima!
Take care!

Which of those stores sells imported Canadian wines? I’d like to give “icewine” to a few of my students. Delicious souvenirs are the best, and my students give me so many that i’d like to repay some of them. I believe icewine is unique and they would really enjoy it, but unfortunately I can only bring 2 small bottle when I come through customs…… So if you know ANY place with icewine, please let me know!

Thanks for the info, Martin. I am also close to Umeda, and would love to hear more about great shops and places to eat…
I’ve enjoyed reading your posts…
Edward, that would be a great gift! I’ll keep my eyes open, too. There is a store in Umeda Station that sometimes sell Canadian things…maple syrup, Canadian Club whiskey, etc…but I haven’t seen ice wine there…
