GetAttachment[3]One of the things that I really like about my job teaching English in Japan is holding special events for my students. Joint events are especially fun. For students, it gives them the opportunity to meet teachers and students from other Smith’s schools as well as practice their English, experience different cultures and have a great time with their teachers outside the classroom.  For teachers, it’s a great opportunity not only to meet students from other Smith’s schools, but also to see fellow Smith’s franchisees and talk about their jobs teaching English in Japan. These events may be for students, but I think teachers have as much fun as their students do! (^.^)

On September 27th, 2009  Smith’s School of English Okamoto, Smith’s School of English Kawanishi and Smith’s School of English Tsukaguchi held a joint barbecue event together at Al’s house in Ikeda City, Osaka Prefecture. Al is the owner of Smith’s School of English Okamoto. Al and his wife had a lovely sunroom added to their house this year and Al had been planning to hold a barbecue event there for his school in autumn. Smith’s School of English Tsukaguchi and Smith’s School of English Kawanishi ended up joining, making it a joint event.  I am sure glad I did, because it was great!

I believe a total of 27 people were in attendance. Al’s house was very nice. Outside the sunroom was a cute little yard with some grass, which is rare in Japan.  There were 3 barbecue grills nearby where steak, pork ribs, vegetables and seafood was cooked for everybody. I got some stuff for the event at COSTCO, including 2 big cakes. I had ordered one of the cakes with a message written on it, saying “Smith’s School of English Barbecue Event”.  It was delicious! (^.^) All of the food was delicious! We talked and some people played games in English or sang karaoke songs. Al sang some songs in Japanese! Wow!

Later, after the event, I was thanked by students, either by email or at my English conversation school(英会話), Smith’s School of English Tsukaguchi located in Tsukaguchi(塚口), Amagasaki City(尼崎市), Hyogo Prefecture(兵庫県). They all really enjoyed the event!  Great!

I’d like to thank all who attended this really fun event and say a special thanks to those who helped on that day.  A huge thank you goes to Al and his wife for letting us use their house for this great joint barbecue event!  I also thank Al for putting together the video of the event. It’s great!

I had a really good time at this event and am looking forward to holding more joint Smith’s School of English events with other Smith’s schools!  They really are a lot of fun!

Derek
