Sight-Seeing Japan – Omimaiko : A Favorite Sept Retreat

You are here: Home / Blog / Sight-Seeing Japan – Omimaiko : A Favorite Sept Retreat

My wife Yoko and I have a number of favorite places to spend a weekend or two each year, and our top recommendation for summer’s end is Omimaiko on the central west shore of Lake Biwako.

We come here every year in September as a matter of habit, and every year we go to the same Japanese-style hotel and stay in our favorite room, the best room in the place.  Some rituals are harder to break than quitting smoking.

The place is deserted and so is the beach, but that seems mighty odd because the lake is very warm and plenty comfortable for swimming and the air is still a lovely 31 degrees Celsius.

Not a boat to be seen out there …. imagine what it must have looked like during Obon!  I must strongly recommend NOT going there during THAT particular week.  The best time to go is just when the kids have to go back to school.  Ha Ha Bye Bye!

Students at the Smith’s School of English in Kotoen スミス英会話 甲東園 often talk about the merits of sight-seeing Japan as a cost-effective alternative to traveling abroad, and I have long had my fair share of recommendations.  In fact I think visiting the country on wheels is a marvelous way to spend your vacation time.
