In January I set a goal for myself and Smith’s School of English Ohtsu:
“In 2009, I will improve on ALL of the “local promotion numbers” from 2008″
What this means is that if we had an advertising budget of say 20$ in January 2008, we would increase that number in January of 2009 to say 30$.
As we have just passed the midway point in 2009, I figure it’s a good time to update everyone on how the goal is going so far. For every month of 2009 we increased ALL numbers in ALL categories in ALL months EXCEPT in May 2009. And even in May, doing almost no local promotion, we still got trials and new student sign-ups. Even when we don’t have the time, the Smith’s machine continues to work for us, allowing us to relax and take care of the personal side of life! What has been the result of all this increase in local promotion? Thanks to the hard working staff at head office and the combined efforts of ourselves and multiple other Smith’s team members, in June we had a record month at Smith’s School of English Ohtsu! We had our highest income ever, the most trials in a single calender month since we took over the school in December 2007, and a tie for the most successful trials in a single calendar month. All told, we not only feel good about [almost perfectly] achieving our goal, but also seeing results coming out in the numbers.
I’ll update again at the end of the year… this goal is a constant nag to get up and go, and it’s helping us to keep the ball rolling, keep the momentum going.
Edward, SSE Ohtsu
PS- Any guesses as to why we didn’t get much local promotion done in May? Hints HERE and HERE

Way to go, Edward! It’s great to see the results of hard work, and it’s also great to make Short Term Achievable Goals and follow through with them. It sounds like you’re doing a great job.
We are having a great year, too. But you have reminded us that we can do better! Our goals are similar, so we have decided to also try to do better in all areas than last year! Thanks for reminder!

Edward,
I think your wedding in May is why you didn’t get much promotion done in May. Did I guess right? Congratulations again to both you and Chiharu on your marriage! Well done with your school! Congratulations to the both of you on having a record month! Keep up the great work!
