Travelling is a passion I share with many SSE Katsura students. We love finding out about interesting places and locations. Although not all of us can visit various places around the world, we can all have an interesting English conversation about our trips.
During the winter holiday I had the opportunity to travel with my family to Prague and visit the famous Christmas Market. In Europe, Christmas is probably the biggest holiday of the year. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that every city and every village is festively decorated from top to bottom and inside every house is a beautiful Christmas tree.
One of the biggest European attractions during this time are Christmas markets in big cities. Prague is a stunning city with ancient castles, historic buildings and monuments. During Christmas the whole town turns into a fairy-tale land. Locals and tourists come to the Old Town Square to celebrate, eat, shop and listen to Christmas carols.
Food stands offer grilled meat and sausages, hot soups and traditional baked sweets. The delicious smell coming from the stands is hard to ignore. Other places offer traditional ceramic pottery and decorations. There are also wooden toys and puppets. Many tourists take ride in the open horse cart through the city.
In the middle of the market overseeing the commotion and wonderful atmosphere stands a majestic Christmas tree. Magic couldn’t be more real at this place.
If you ever wonder where to go during Christmas holidays I highly recommend Prague. It is a truly wonderful place.
