North or South?

You are here: Home / English School Articles / North or South?

I have often heard people refer to Osaka city as ‘North’ Osaka and ‘South’ Osaka.
So which one is better? That’s a difficult question indeed.
One thing I can say with certainty is that here at the Senriyama branch of Smiths School of English the atmosphere is much quieter and peaceful that the often manic environment of the ‘Kita’ and ‘Minami’ areas. This is a good thing, though I do very much enjoy experiencing the buzz that permeates from the two main business and entertainment districts of Osaka city.
So, back to the question of which is better – North or South Osaka.
Personally, my favourite place is the Shinsaibashi area. I think that this area is amazing. Very clean and modern, with some impressive architecture, the wide tree-lined streets remind me a little of some of the more beautiful streets in Melbourne, Australia.
The array of retail shops is also pretty impressive. I don’t think I saw anything in the Adidas shop that I wouldn’t want to buy!
The area is well known for its amazing food and bars, so I don’t think I need to elaborate too much on those aspects just yet. More information to come in the following weeks!
Whilst I have only been living in Osaka for just shy of three months, there are many other areas that I have yet to explore. I may soon find another favourite place, though it will need to be awfully good to dethrone Shinsaibashi from the top of my list.

I love Osaka Castle Park and all the used camera shops and ethnic restaurants in Kyobashi area, so I would say east Osaka is the best!
