Doing things with my students outside the classroom is always a lot of fun. A student of mine from Smith’s School of English Tsukaguchi asked my Japanese wife and I if we wanted to go to an exhibition that was being held at Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art (京都市美術館)in Kyoto with her. The exhibition, called “The Louvre Museum Exhibition: Master Paintings of 17th Century Europe”, was being held from June 30th to September 27th and featured 71 paintings borrowed from the Louvre Museum in Paris. We happily accepted to go with her. September 21st, 22nd and 23rd were national holidays in Japan so I was off from my job teaching English in Japan. My wife’s parents were going to visit us from Okayama Prefecture for a few days during that holiday period, so my wife, her parents, my student and I all ended up going to Kyoto together and having a great time.
We went to Kyoto by train and after having a nice lunch, got into some taxis and went to the museum. There were many people there so we had to wait in line for at least an hour, but enjoyed the paintings once inside. Afterwards, we got into some taxis again and went to Nishiki Ichiba(錦市場)a food market in Kyoto, where we did some shopping. I bought something sweet to offer to my students at my English school, Smith’s School of English Tsukaguchi(スミス英会話塚口校), which is located in Tsukaguchi(塚口), Amagasaki City(尼崎市), Hyogo Preferecture(兵庫県), Japan. We eventually headed back home. Before my student parted from my Japanese family and I, she thanked us and we in turn thanked her. We had had a very nice day out together in Kyoto.
