One of Andrew’s favorite Smith’s English lessons is one called ‘My Hometown’ in the ‘Let’s Talk’ section of the curriculum. Every time we teach it I reminisce about my hometown and miss it even more. Recently the tourism department in my hometown, Nanaimo BC, released a new video to promote the city. Nanaimo is located just 45 km west of Vancouver and about 100 km north of Victoria on Vancouver Island, the west coast of Canada. It is a medium sized city with about 80 000 residents. The city’s main industries are tourism, sports and commercial fishing, and pulp & paper. Nanaimo has over 30 km of shoreline and several lakes ideal for outdoor activities. As expected the video highlights the nicest parts, making the city look even nicer than it is! That said, it is one of the nicest places to have grown up and live in, and I love going back there whenever I can. Here’s a little video glimpse into my hometown:
