Freedom Working for Myself and Part of a Team Too
Hello everybody! I have been owning Smith’s School of English Tsukaguchi in Amagasaki, Japan for just about 18 years now. I’ve also been coaching and teaching English there the whole time. It’s been great! Nothing beats the freedom that comes with being my own boss. In addition, I benefit from being part of Smith’s School of English. Although not a large group, we do stand as the largest English conversation franchise corporation in Japan owned and operated by foreign English teachers since 1996. I work for myself and therefore directly reap the rewards of my own effort and being part of a team. We have shared head office support and web sites, seminars and work together on things like this blog page!
Having Great Students and Freedom To Teach What I Want and How I Want
There are other reasons why I love owning my own Smith’s English school franchise in Tsukaguchi, Amagasaki . One reason is my students who are very important to me. I think I learn as much from them as they from me. They are so kind and many study English with me for a long time. Another reason is the freedom to teach whatever I want and how I want (the Smith’s curriculum or my own material).
Control Over My Schedule and Time to Do Other Things
Control over my teaching schedule is really is important to me too. I have a lot of freedom. This makes it possible to make time for other things that are important to me like spending time with my family, practicing classical guitar, studying Japanese and trying other kinds of work. Thanks to my schedule, on weekdays I am able to pick up my kids at their school bus stop and eat dinner with them at Smith’s School of English Tsukaguchi before teaching evening English lessons. I can also make time to do other things too like work at my kids’ international school. This control over my schedule and time is something special at Smith’s.
Thank you for everything, Smith’s Head Office!
Derek
