Hey Hey for all you hockey fans in our Smith’s School of English system, those of you especially from Canada but also you Americans, let it be known:
I am a hockey fan. It’s the greatest game on Earth. It’s greater even than World Cup Football ( Go Germany EURO Cup 2012 ) and greater than the MLB. And there is only one kind of hockey and it’s played on ice and there is fighting and turmoil and drama.
The Los Angeles Kings have been in the NHL for 45 years. In all those years they have never won a Stanley Cup Championship. In fact they have never even been the runner up. Well, this year they were an 8th-seeded playoff contender, simply average as they have always been, and just barely qualified for the first round play-offs.
Well from there, they were expected to be immediately wiped out by our beloved 1st-seeded Vancouver Canucks. Wrong. Kings in 5.
Then, up against the wonderful 2nd-seeded Saint Louis Blues. No chance for the Kings here, right? Wrong. Kings sweep in 4 straight.
Then, up against 3rd-seeded Phoenix Coyotes, Kings do them in 5 games. Then, finally the New Jersey Devils, three-time Stanley Cup Champions and the team that wiped out the hateful Philadelphia Flyers and the obnoxious New York Rangers! LA Kings do them in 6 just to be polite, but I think it was because they really wanted to be in Los Angeles when they won so they threw the 5th game in New Jersey.
This winning streak is tied for the most unbelievable upset in NHL History and was done in the shortest number of games ever, tied with the Edmonton Oilers in 1982. The LA Kings have made history.

Are you from Lotus Land, Martin? Can the Canucks ever get it done? For that matter, how about my Habs? It’s been a long drought….

Yep, the Canucks are a perpetual disappointment
and then there are the Leafs and the Oilers too. Canadian teams are all hurting while the country shines in the Olympics. Clearly points to a talent drain to US teams! Gretzky retired with the Kings!
