knowledge is power

You are here: Home / Blog / knowledge is power

Many of us have heard that “knowledge is power.” In year’s past knowledge was limited. I lived in Manila from the age of 8 and then moved to Bangkok when I was 14. A few years ago my parents told me that when the first made the decision to move abroad that they went to the library to find more information about the Philippines and they could only find two books. None of our friends even knew where the Philippines was back then. I was even given a goodbye ceremony by my entire school because it was such a big occasion. I felt as if I was going on a trip to the moon!!

Today the world has become much smaller and traveling internationally has become common place. Nowadays though it’s not even necessary to travel thanks to the internet, we can order goods from all over the world and have them sent to our doorstep in just a short time. We no longer have to go to the library to track down information as the internet has more information than a 1000 libraries. Never before has knowledge been so available to so many people. It’s changing everything. Today it’s more a question of knowing how to find the right information. English is just one tool that allows us to learn more. There is only one small point that some people forget and that is knowledge alone isn’t enough. Knowledge + action create the miracle process. Learning just for learning sake is wasted. Learning magic is only useful if we can share it with others. English is only useful when applied to your life. That’s why I appreciate all the students at Smith’s 英会話 Hirakata for coming each and every week and working hard. With hard work, nothing is impossible. So use what you know and see how far it will take you.

Adrian

Yes Adrian with hard work nothing is impossible. I have taken up Mark’s challenge and aim to build my school to a 7 million one man business, by what I think is a reasonable STAG, before the December 2010 holiday break. Just look at Mark’s success at revitalising Kyobashi as an example that it can be done by goal orientated enthusiastic effort
