I have one student who is 6 years old and recently returned from Canada. She reads at nearly the 3rd grade level but does not always understand the meaning of what she reads. She can sound out almost any word. Her writing is still in early stages. She has not had much writing practice. So now we read a story and talk about it to check comprehension and to teach any new words. Then I help her to write a summary of the story.
However, I was looking for some kind of vocabulary lists that I could use for her and other students. I found the following link which seems to be quite good. Vocabulary Lists. At the bottom of the home page you can download very nice lists for grades 1 to 5. Take a look and see if it is helpful for you. I hope I can use these lists. They are nicely done and highlight the sounds you are trying to teach.
Enjoy!
