This Saturday, one of my man-to-man students came to her class and I was all set to do the Ability 2 lesson on making invitations. After practicing making and accepting these for a while I realized that there is not much difference between an invitation and a request which we had covered in a previous lesson. So we practiced requests again related to her job. Working in an office for an international transportation/courier company, she often has to make requests via email to her company’s overseas staff in Europe, Hong Kong and Singapore. So we practiced requests again. She appreciated this practice and the fact that I always try to make the lesson interesting and relevant to her work.
I finished this part of the lesson by going back to making invitations and teaching her the more informal form “You wanna catch a movie later?” By the way I always get a kick out of the request to go camping. I think she did too when I responded, “I’d love to but it’s a bit cold now so let’s go later in the spring.” She laughed and laughed, but I was serious….. Ha Ha! We have so much fun coaching our students, I cannot think of a better job.
