Every day I cross the Katsura river on my way to SSE Katsura. The river banks offer clean and safe places to enjoy free time activities and hobbies at any time of the day. I often use the cycling path along the river to enjoy natural scenery and fresh air. Every time I’m on this path, I see locals doing various interesting activities. The variety makes me appreciate how lucky we are to be at this great location.
Practice
Baseball practice and matches are a regular feature at the riverside game fields. It’s always fun to watch kids playing baseball. Lots of passion on display not only from young players but also from their parents. Sometimes, when I’m lucky, I can also enjoy listening to someone practising a musical instrument. Hearing a saxophone or trumpet practice never fails to cheer up my day.
Training
Competitive dog training is a fascinating activity to watch. I’ve never seen such a rigorous training until I started spending time by the river. The dedication of coaches and their dogs is truly amazing. The dogs are clearly enjoying themselves and I can only imagine how intense the actual competition events must be. Not far away, there’s a big golf shooting range, where locals train their swing skills. I’ve never tried, but maybe one day I’ll get to do some golf training too.
Exercise
Whether people like to walk, run or cycle, the riverside path is available to us all. It’s clean and safe and it goes as far as Arashiyama. Any type of exercise is possible on the green grass along the way. Some people do yoga and some do their stretch routines. There are no limits to the exercise opportunities in the area.
English Speaking
People looking for an easy opportunity to speak English and to improve communicative confidence can do so at SSE Katsura. Our doors are always open to new faces. Our classroom is run in a clean, friendly and safe environment. So what can you do to join us? Come to experience free trial lesson and see for yourself.

Good read, Tom. I’m one of those musicians, sometimes meeting a friend to play duets at the Sagami River in Kanagawa. It’s especially nice in the autumn. Enjoy the rest of your summer!
