This year marks the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Canada. To celebrate this occasion, we are honored as Canadians to have Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko visiting our home and experiencing firsthand the beauty and richness of Canada. This visit underlies the importance and strength of the relationship between our two countries. Through economic, commercial, political, cultural, and especially educational ties, the bond has continued to grow stronger and stronger further entwining our two countries for a partnership that will remain solid well into the future. As this trip is Emperor Akihito’s second visit to Canada, we wish him and the Empress to have a truly wonderful time while visiting and to experience all the beauty that Canada has to offer.
