Hello all. I wonder how many of you are interested in Ikebana? Well my wife Yoko is a relative expert on the topic as she is with kimonos, and has eagerly taught me a couple of basics. Since I’m still a tiny bit hazy on the details, I’ve just introduced ikebana as a discussion focus to some of the more senior English conversation students at the Smith’s School of English in Kotoen スミス英会話 甲東園. It turns out that there are many more people interested in traditional Japanese art than just a few years ago, a new trend toward basic values and quality of life. Great!
Yoko and I went to Kyoto Gosho at the beginning of this month, a really good place to get a good look at some of the most respected Ikebana art in the country. For those of you who were unfortunately unable to attend, I offer the photos above. Another really good option is to pay a visit to the Kyoto Museum of Art which is basically right across the street from Heian-Jingu, a wonderful building with a very reasonably-priced gift shop attached, the kind of gift shop where you might really like to buy something! Beautiful things and a lot can be learned there.
