I spent my Golden Week holiday in Hawaii and came back home last week. This time I did not do sightseeing. I went to the beach, went snorkeling, went shopping and had a good time with my granddaughter during my 9 days’ stay. I really enjoyed myself. My granddaughter grew up so much compared to last year and she was not a baby anymore. I spoke about various things with her in English.
I visited a famous photographer’s, Peter Lik’s, Gallery which I found on Lewers Road in Waikiki. His photographs were all really excellent. Especially, the scenery of National Parks in America was splendid. Please listen to a BBC interview on his website as it will allow you to get some good practice of English listening.
I was surprised that some waiters spoke Japanese even at the IHOP restaurant. It is convenient for Japanese people. However, I hope my students refrain from speaking Japanese so as to improve their English ability when they visit Hawaii. I believe they can do it.
By the way, this English translation was done by a Smith’s School of English Student who translated the Japanese I wrote on the smithweb.co.jp site in Al’s Room. She also checked and corrected my Japanese in exchange for me checking and correcting her English Translation. Smith’s School of English is different from the other schools. This is a small but powerful example of how it is different.

That’s great Al. I’d like to go to Hawaii one day.
I am happy to see another one of my student’s translations (corrected by you). Thanks again for doing the exchange work with her. Her sister has translated my post on my trip to Guam and I’ve posted her tranlation on our Japanese Smith’s web site http://www.smithweb.co.jp/soapbox/ . The title is “<日本の家族とグアム旅行>” .

I have no doubt that you had a great time Al. I have not been to Hawaii for along time however I have fond memories of its restaurants, bars, beaches and people watching opportunities.
In fact Gold Coast City – Australia is a less commercialised and subsequently a cheaper version of Waikiki I thoroughly recommend it to you as a future holiday destination.
