Everyone has a favorite student. Haruna is mine. She is a hard working married woman who works at a university as an advisor and aid to foreign students. She is also a very internationally-minded person because she went to school as a child and teenager in Scotland. She knows what culture shock is. When she came back to Japan she was thrown into Japanese high school after several years of learning in English. I can only imagine how difficult that was for her as an adolescent, but she obviously coped well because she is a very confident person when she speaks in class. I am sure she is equally as confident in everyday life. She speaks without fear. She makes mistakes, but communicates at a very high level. She is so good that I am able to slip some friendly sarcasm into my lessons without fear of her misinterpreting things. She is a very competent speaker, a friendly person, and a joy to teach. She is my favorite student.
