Discussions at the Smith’s School of English in Kotoen スミス英会話 甲東園 have recently focused on the upcoming completion of JR Osaka Station City phase 2 which is now officially called Grand Front Osaka. The lights are on and shelves are being stocked.
It’s worth remembering the seven or eight years it has taken for JR Station City, now already approaching its second anniversary, to get finished. Grand Front has also been in the works now for more than five years. All of this activity is very interesting and will definitely breathe some new life into the Umeda Sky Building pictured here and indeed for all of Umeda and Kita-ku. The USB is approching 19 years of age, but with a good wash of its windows looks just as good as the day it was completed.
In the previous post, Mark Smith invites everyone to attend the ‘Knowledge Capital’ exhibition which will be located at Grand Front, literally a 45-degree turn to the right from this view of the USB. In fact, the reflection in the glass shows the Intercontinental Hotel building still under construction putting the date of this photo at late last summer. The exhibition is scheduled to open in the basement of Grand Front on April 26th and will in part inaugurate the official opening of Grand Front as a whole. Mark will host a group outing for Smith’s School of English Saturday May 2nd. Obviously this is going to be very interesting and a refreshing new way to spend a day in Umeda!
