I just read Adrian’s post on getting things done and I couldn’t agree more about the importance of setting goals. I set goals for myself too, and then I chip, chip, chip away at the stone until it gets closer and closer to the image I have in my mind.
The best tool I have found so far for getting things done is the list. I used a list on paper for many years. If I ever wanted to get something done, I put it on a list. Then it either got done or became irrelevant for some reason or other.
Now my list is an ajax-powered list. I can add and delete things automatically with it. If anything gets onto the list, I almost consider it done because that is how it will be.
There was a time when this took discipline but it does not anymore. I guess discipline is just a habit. Good habits help you and bad habits don’t, so make good ones! Doing all the things you have on your to-do list is a good habit, so I am keeping it.
How do you get things done?
Les,
I too am a list man. I’m always making ‘to do’ lists and then I enjoy checking them off til the list is done, then starting again. Although you have gone high tech with your lists, I still use paper, and a magnet to stick the list on the fridge!
