Gagaku concert – experience Japanese tradition!

You are here: Home / Blog / Gagaku concert – experience Japanese tradition!

Gagaku concert is coming up!

gagaku concert flyer - Japanese traditional music concert!

On the 28th of November, the yearly Garyokai concert will be held in Osaka! It is a great opportunity to experience Japanese tradition life and in good quality. It is named “Hatasei no Mai”, freely translated to “Mr. Qin’s dance”. Don’t miss it! I won’t be playing this year, but I certainly will be at this Gagaku concert and be ready to talk about this Japanese tradition!

Me and Gagaku

I played at a Gagaku concert 22 years ago in my university town cologne. It was a great experience for me. So great that I continued until now and even decided to come to Japan to learn more about Gagaku. It is a Japanese tradition ages old. Actually, it goes back to the Asuka period and Prince Shotoku. So use the chance to experience Japanese tradition!

Where is the Gagaku concert?

The Garyokai concert is at the Festival hall in Nakanoshima, Osaka as every year. So it is very close to the central stations in Umeda! Easy to get to and easy to go home. Also, there are many restaurants in the area. How about a Japanese restaurant? Food is another great Japanese tradition to experience. Nakanoshima is also a great place for a stroll along the Old Yodogawa river right in central Osaka! Ask our English teachers in Miyakoshima or Tenroku. Both are right next to the Old Yodogawa river!

What time is the Gagaku concert (and other details)

This year, the concert will start at 6:30 p.m. on the 28th of November. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The Garyokai concert will last for about three hours and there is a break in the middle. A ticket costs 4000 Yen. They can be bought at common sites like ticket pia, Lawson ticket and at the festival hall. I have some left, too. The most famous dance this year is probably “ranryouou”, which is performed by a single dancer (wikipedia site in Japanese, no English site available).
