I wake up everyday and think about my decision to become an English teacher in Japan. Even though there were hard times in the beginning, I will never regret the decision to make this move. Other than the financial rewards which come with having a large school, there is the satisfaction of knowing that you are providing a valued service to your students. The way that English is taught in Japanese public schools sets up the need for English conversation schools since English conversation is not really taught or emphasized. However, the students are all given a fairly good foundation of vocabulary and a knowledge of grammar which make our job easier. We just have to give them the confidence to speak. That’s why we call ourselves “Coaches of Communicative Confidence”.
It is really fun to teach English to Japanese students. They are eager to learn and to practice what they learn. They appreciate your help. The progress you see them make every week, makes you feel good. Not one regret, except perhaps that I should have made the move earlier!
