Free Online Radio

You are here: Home / Blog / Free Online Radio

I’m posting links to my favorite streaming online radio at the request of several students. Online radio is a great way to practice listening, get some world news and just enjoy music from around the world. So here are some of my favorite radio stations. Most of them I listened to on the radio back home in Nanaimo BC Canada, and several of them I still listen to now on a regular basis or when I feel homesick. Just go to the websites of any major radio station and look for the LISTEN LIVE button, it’s quick and easy and lots of fun

Number one is my favorite station of all time. Based in Vancouver, Classic Rock 101 is one of the most famous and popular classic rock radio stations in North America. I used to listen to this in my car, with my Walkman, my alarm clock, everywhere. So if you like classic rock such as the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles and so on, this is the station for you. About 70% music and 30% talk and commercials.

Number two is 99.3 The Fox, which is a modern rock station. Bands like Nirvana, Green Day, Nickelback, and so on. This station is especially popular with young men and teenagers. Usually playing a mix of top 10 and 90’s rock, this station is also about 70% music.

Number three is Canada’s national public radio station, CBC. CBC has 3 different stations, Radio One, Radio 2 and Radio 3. Radio One is the original CBC, with almost 100% talk and almost no music. News, current affairs, talk shows can all be heard here; this is the radio station that everyone in Canada has been listening to every morning for the last 100 years. CBC Radio 2 and 3 are music stations. All 3 can be listened to live HERE, by clicking the links in the top right corner.

Of course there are many more stations out there- look around, find one you like and save in to your bookmarks menu!
