Wow! Last night felt so refreshing! After the hotest summer on record it was great to finally sleep in a cool bedroom without the AC. But it only serves to remind me that Japan has some great seasons. They are very distinct and beautiful. Having lived in Japan for a total of 12 years over two stints separated by a 20-year period in the states, I have seen some changes in the Japanese seasons. Summer is hotter and winter is warmer. I remember wearing a heavy coat in early november about 32 years ago. We went to Kyoto to see the changing of the leaves. Now, this change seems to occur in late November and I might not even wear a sweater or light jacket some days in early November. Global warming or whatever it is, the climate is changing. But I hope we will not lose the distinct beautiful seasons in Japan. It is almost like a national treasure to go along with a plentiful water supply.
Well, enough of that. Back to work! Enjoy your Japanese day! I know I will!

Al,
As you say, the cool season has finally come. We’ve finally switched from towel-kets to light blankets, and it’s a great feeling sleeping in the cool. Fortunately it’s still warm during the day, and not oppressively so as it has been. Autumn has come!
