EXPLORING NARA

You are here: Home / Blog / EXPLORING NARA

I never get tired of exploring Nara. A couple of weeks ago, I took another trip there and as usual I avoided going to the park. It’s not that I don’t like going to see the deer, it’s just that I think there’s more to the city. So I wandered through the back streets and came across a really old shotengei. It was the weekend so many of the shops were closed. Well…maybe they’re actually permanently closed, but it was still nice because I also like to explore abandoned places.

From there, I made my way through more of the small streets, seeing interesting houses and shops and found a little museum. I call it a museum but again I could be wrong, but it did have some nice miniatures of the Chinese Zodiac and other cool things make of wicker…maybe. I’m not an expert and I forgot to take a brochure so I’m guessing.

Close by there was a stylish looking restaurant, but I’d already eaten so I can’t really comment on the food. It was actually a combination restaurant and market so I could go in, look around, and take pics.

After spending a few more hours going up and down more back roads, I finally did make my way to the park. It had gotten late in the day by then so I was able to catch the sunset. One thing for sure is that the sun will never set on my love for the people, culture or the beauty, of Japan. It really is an amazing country.
