I love coffee, but so far, I have not been enjoying SDG friendly coffee. Since my first cup, I have always loved the taste and even more the smell of coffee. So I regularly enjoy a cup of freshly made coffee in my breaks at the Smith’s school of English in Fuse. There are many choices for a quick, fresh and high quality cup of coffee now. But they almost always involve extra trash and use of valuable resources. This has worried me because it is not SDG friendly coffee.
Last month, I found my answer! Now I am enjoying my coffee SDG friendly without any extra trash or use of energy! I found a paperless coffee filter. Even better than this, I went one step further and bought a mechanical coffee mill to grind my coffee beans! Well, it is not a ‘quick’ cup of coffee anymore. But the smell of the freshly ground coffee beans is amazing! Then I pour the boiling water, and take in the smell of fresh coffee! I can enjoy my cup of coffee so much more!
So, how do I enjoy my cup of SDG friendly coffee? Well, I do not produce any extra waste, which is SDG 12.4. With my mechanical mill, I do not use any electricity at all (SDG 12.2). Finally, I prefer to choose Fairtrade (aiming at SDG 1.2) and Rain forest alliance (SDG 15.2) coffee.
